PRUNUS LUSIT. ANGUSTIFOLIA

Prunus lusitanica subsp. angustifolia (Portuguese laurel, narrow-leaved form) is a dense, evergreen hedging shrub with neat, glossy, dark green, narrower leaves than the species, forming a refined, easily clipped screen. Small white flower racemes appear in early summer, followed by red to black fruits. It thrives in sun or light shade and in fertile, well-drained soils, including chalk. If left untrimmed it can reach around 6m tall and 4m wide in time, making a robust, long-lived hedge suited to formal boundaries and strong architectural structure.
