PHYLLOSTACHYS NIGRA CLT 12 H 150 - 200 CM

Phyllostachys nigra, commonly known as black bamboo, is a striking, evergreen screening bamboo valued for its slender, arching canes that turn a glossy black by their second or third year. It forms dense, upright clumps with fine green foliage and is ideal for architectural screening or as a focal hedge in sun or light shade. Plant in moisture-retentive but well-drained, moderately fertile soil and provide a root barrier if space is limited, as this is a running bamboo. Expect an eventual height of around 5–8m with a natural spread of approximately 3–4m, depending on site and maintenance.

Feeding time: Spring (apply a general-purpose fertiliser and mulch)
Trimming time: Spring for thinning and removal of dead or weak canes; light shaping in summer if needed

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
