Fargesia mur. Malachite Monkey

Fargesia mur. Malachite Monkey

Fargesia murielae 'Malachite Monkey' is a clump-forming, non‑invasive umbrella bamboo ideal for creating a dense, elegant hedge or screening backdrop. Its fine green foliage forms graceful, arching fountains of leafy canes that respond well to light clipping, offering privacy without spreading. Best in fertile, moist but well‑drained soil, it grows in sun or light shade and benefits from shelter from cold, drying winds. As a hedge, allow plants to knit into a tight screen; expect an eventual height of about 3–4m with a natural spread of roughly 2–3m in time.

Feeding time: Spring (apply a balanced general-purpose fertiliser as growth resumes)
Trimming time: Spring for thinning/removal of older canes at the base; light shaping in late summer once new growth has matured

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
